Early Care and Education launched the Boston Early Education Quality
Improvement Project (Boston EQUIP) in 1994 with a broad goal and
mission - to collaborate with members of the Boston early education
community to systematically evaluate, set goals for, and improve
upon the quality of early childhood programs.
In 1995, Boston EQUIP
conducted its first inventory of the early education system in Boston,
and used that data to establish a series of quality improvement
benchmarks - goals for the field to attain in five key areas:
- Accreditation,
- Parent Engagement,
- Teacher Training/Education,
- Staff Salaries, and
- Facilities Investments
Boston EQUIP has since collected program
level data three times - in 1997, 1999 and 2000/2001. For the first time in 2002, Boston
EQUIP surveyed Boston's parents, collecting
data on their early care and education needs and utilization, and
their view of early care and education quality. Associated is currently in the production phase of the 2004 report.
